Colours Wheelchairs Explained
The Boing! wheelchair has 4-wheel, independent suspension, meaning shock absorbers cushioning each of the wheels. The innovative suspension system created by Colours Wheelchairs removes much of the impact and vibration from the road making a more comfortable ride without adding much weight to the wheelchair. The Boing! is perfect for people affected by spasticity, pressure sores, pain or who are looking for more comfort. Boing! is the wheelchair used by Aaron Fotheringham when he did his now famous wheelchair backflip. If the Boing! can make Aaron's backflip possible, imagine what it can do for your ride. Smoooooth.
Spazz is an attractive, strong and ultralight wheelchair. Colours recently announced that, in order to prove its strength, they had the Spazz crash tested and it passed with excellent results. The Spazz-G, a model of the Spazz, has some special features. Like the Spazz, it is highly adjustable, however, the Spazz-G can also grow in width. As far as we know, this is a very unique feature. If you gain weight, you do not need to buy a new wheelchair. Simply contact your dealer, they will order some spare parts and install them. You will have a larger wheelchair for a fraction of the cost of a new wheelchair. The Spazz G has another unique feature. It is one of the most economical ultralight wheelchairs on the market. This is truly a great wheelchair at a great price.
Krypto is the perfect wheelchair for the first time wheelchair user. Every therapist will tell you that proper seating positioning is very important. However, finding the optimal seating angle, the perfect difference between the rear seat height and the front seat height, is tricky. The optimal seating angle will give the wheelchair user maximal stability in the wheelchair and the minimum risk of pressure sores. The therapist will make their best estimate when fitting the first time user. If the seating angle is wrong, most wheelchairs today have adjustable rear and front seat height. But usually this requires ordering spare parts and sending the wheelchair back to the shop for several days to get the new parts installed. When you get your wheelchair back, if you are lucky, the seating angle will fit you better. If not, you have to order more spare parts and start over again. This makes finding just the right seat angle complicated, and some wheelchair users may simply accept a positioning that is less than optimal. Colours Wheelchairs solved this problem since, due to a special built in mechanism excluve to the Krypto, the rear and front seat height are adjustable with no extra-parts. This means any seat angle can be achieved easily and economically by simply adjusting the mechanism. Also the front casters of the Krypto are spread wide apart. This gives the first time user a feeling of lateral stability when reaching for something.
Zephyr is the 'Ferrari' of wheelchairs. The Zephyr is the ideal wheelchair for someone who knows wheelchairs and wants the best. Each Zephyr is custom-made to order, to fit one and only one person, YOU! Imagine that you want to buy a suit. You can either go to a department store and buy a suit off of the rack and have it altered to fit you. That will probably look ok. OR you can go to a tailor and have a suit custom made to fit your body. That will look hot! Buying a Zephyr is like buying a custom made suit. It is designed to fit you like a glove. The Zephyr is not made with bolts and brackets like other wheelchairs, everything is welded. This gives several advantages. First, bolts and brackets add weight. Since the Zephyr does not have them, it is an ultra, ultra lightweight wheelchair one of the lightest wheelchairs on the market. Second, bolts and brackets no matter how tightly screwed on will allow some slight movement, and will absorb some of the energy from the push of the wheelchair. Since everything is welded on the Zephyr, it has a very high performance. You get the maximum forward movement from your push. Third, bolts and brackets sometimes go out of alignment and require frequent maintenence. Since most things are welded on the Zephyr, there is much less maintenence required. There are Zephyrs designed for everyday use and Zephyr sports models for the serious athlete. There is one word of caution, however the Zephyr should not be your first wheelchair. Since everything is welded, there is almost no adjustability. But then, was your first car a Ferrari?
Launched by Colours Wheelchairs in 2007 the L-Frame series is actually 3 wheelchairs with a sleek new design. Each has 'blade' names: Razorblade, Switchblade and Shockblade. With the backrest folded down and the wheels off, the frame has a compact 'L-shaped' construction (thus the name L-Frame series) making it easy to bring into your car. Like Colours custom-made wheelchair, Zephyr, with the Razorblade you can develop your own design, and since it is mostly welded you will have a high performance wheelchair. At 11 pounds (5kg) without wheels, it is nearly as lightweight as the Zephyr. The Switchblade is an adjustable version of the Razor Blade. You still enjoy the lightweight L-frame design that allows you to easily put the wheelchair in your car. But Colours Wheelchairs has included the ability to change front and rear seat height easily by adding an adjustable seating system. This is a great wheelchair for a newly injured person who is unsure of the ultimate seating position. Shockblade is the same as the Razorblade but includes the independent suspension previously found ONLY in the Colours Wheelchairs' popular suspension wheelchair, Boing!. The Shockblade's sleek design means that it is even lighter and more transportable than Boing!
Looking for a cool, lightweight pediatric wheelchair? But you don't want to invest alot of money because your child is going to grow out of it? Find out about Colours Wheelchairs' "growth program". Each of Colours' pediatric wheelchairs (Colours Wheelchairs has three different pediatric wheelchair) can grow with the child. As the child grows, parts can be ordered to make the wheelchair grow as well, in length as well as width. This means that you do not have to buy a new wheelchair every 2 or 3 years. One word of advice: if you are interested in the growth program and you get the Krypto or the Chump-G pediatric wheelchair, get also 'adjustable tension upholstery'. A bit more expensive than the standard upholstery, adjustable tension upholstery can grow in width by 1 inch (2 cm). This allows you to grow the wheelchair by 1 inch in width, without changing upholstery. The first growth will be at a remarkably low price. Adjustable tension upholstery can also adjusted to take up the slack so your upholstery does not sag as it gets older.
